Authentic Mint Julep


1 ounce simple syrup
crushed ice
2 ounces bourbon
1 teaspoon fresh mint leaves, chopped
2 mint sprigs dipped in powdered sugar

1. Prepare simple syrup by boiling equal parts of sugar and water until the sugar dissolves.
2. Fill tall (8 to 12-ounce) glasses with crushed ice.
3. Place crushed mint on top of the ice.
4. Pour ½ to 1 ounce simple syrup into the glass.
5. Pour bourbon to the top of the glass.
6. Garnish with mint sprigs that have been dipped into powdered sugar and place into the drink.
7. Place a straw into the drink and sip slowly!
